Day 121 - Drummond Point to Port Lincoln

Woke up to find ourselves next to the ocean and in possibly the most scenic campsite of the trip! The tranquillity was spoilt however by the ridiculous number of flies covering every inch our our bodies as soon as we emerged from the tent. The only positive about the flies is that they seem to annoy Jack more than me!

We tried to find Drummond Point but couldn't even manage it in daylight although we did get to see a huge roo hopping through the wheat fields which was pretty cool. There didn't seem to be much swell anyway so we headed back to the highway and continued on to Port Lincoln. It was amazing to arrive in a decent size town that actually had multiple pubs and coffee shops and restaurants. We bought the papers (been a while too) and treated ourselves to a lazy breakfast and coffee near the water. So good to do urban, normal person stuff!

The main activity for the day was a swim with bluefin tuna, something Jack had come across in a travel article in the newspaper a few years ago. Port Lincoln has a huge tuna fishing industry and one guy has set up a business letting you swim in a tuna pen and hand feed them. Such a great experience, the tuna were (only) 30kg and about a metre long but can grow up to 300kg! They're also bloody quick, they can do up to 35 knots and accelerate faster than a Porsche. They look like missiles with fins and everything is built for speed, half their fins tuck away until they have to turn. So cool. Tasty too, we got to try some fresh tuna sashimi after our swim.

Had a lazy arvo beer at one of the pubs and headed a short way out of town to find a campsite. Found a great spot in Lincoln National Park, just across the water from town but a bit of a drive. Quite odd to have the sparkling lights of civilisation just 5km over the water while you're camping in pristine bush!
