Day 115 - Condingup

Steve (our new found local mate) picked us up early in his Landcruiser ute for a surf check/tour. Not much around in the way of surf but so many set-ups! We drove straight onto the beach then through rough tracks behind each headland as we worked our way along the coast checking all the spots, about 8-10 different breaks within 10km. So much potential here and Steve surfs by himself 99% of the time. We didn't end up finding a wave so Steve donned his snorkelling gear and dived for some abalone then cooked them up for breakfast back at the campsite. Best brekky ever!

We decided to stay on for a few days to try and get the right wind/swell to score some waves. Moved down closer to the coast (Condingup is 20km inland) to a nice little campground near Wharton Beach which has been voted Australia's best beach. Not only that but it had a great righthand point break at the eastern end which can break for hundreds of metres on the right day. We had a fun little surf in 2-3 foot waves but didn't get it cranking. Amazing water colour though and a stunning spot to surf. Tried very hard not to think about sharks, didn't help when Steve mentioned a guy had his leg bitten off by a great white a few months ago...

Surf: Wharton Beach, WA, 2-3 foot, 2.0hr (108.5 total)
