Day 114 - Esperance to Condingup

East again, this time into Cape Le Grand National Park. Honestly this part of Australia is amazing. We climbed up Frenchmans Peak for some great views then after a checking out few more postcard-perfect headed towards Cape Arid National Park a bit further down the road. Saw our first deadly snake on the way, a dead king brown.

Slight issue as we read the notice board at the entrance to the park, the road north to link up with the highway was closed for maintenance. We spoke to the ranger who wasn't every helpful and he confirmed it for us but said we could follow a rough 4wd track for an extra 100km. Sounded like it would be faster to backtrack to Esperance (hours away).

We decided to fall back to Condingup, a tiny little town 60km short of Esperance and try to find out from the locals if a different dirt road was open up to the highway. After setting up camp in the local free camping spot (also the local hockey field), Jack and I headed to the pub for some info.

Glad we did as the bartender was also the only local surfer and proceeded to tell us about all the different surf spots in the area and show us photos of pumping waves on his phone. We'd written off surfing in this area due to lack of info and what we though was the wrong wind but it turned out there are all sort of setups for different conditions. Steve even offered to chuck a sickie the following day to show us some surf spots so we decided it might be worth hanging around a while!
