Day 024 - Blackdown Tablelands NP to Longreach

Back down the big steep hill and off to Longreach today. Jack managed to avoid his first kamikaze kangaroo but surely it won't be the last attack by the local wildlife. amazing drive west with the view changing by the hour and lots more trucks including big long roadtrains. We were a bit disappointed to discover that they only really go up to 4 trailers (typically they're 3 trailers long) but still pretty cool to see.
Got to Longreach early in the afternoon so we could have a look around the Qantas Founders Museum. Pretty well done museum and good to learn the history of Qantas (quite a few things I didn't already know).
Set up camp (at the same caravan park we I staying with my family in 1990) and wandered into town for a beer. Rather enjoying a XXXX Bitter at the moment although perplexed as to why the barmaid had an English accent in the most local-looking pub we could find!
The highlight of the day was chatting to our neighbours at the caravan park, a couple from Victoria. They were retired (no surprises there) and travelling around outback Queensland catching yabbies every day for their dinner! They had 5 or 6 yabbie pots between them (plus 2 fridges in their ute) and were catching up to 40 quite big redclaws a day! We extracted as much info as possible and suddenly we have a new to-do on our list for the trip...
