Day 083 - De Gray River Rest Area to Karajini NP

Jack looked much better this morning so we packed up and trucked south to Port Hedland to have a look around there. Amazing to see the port and all the ships being loaded with (BHP) iron ore. They can fill a ship with 200,000 tonnes in under 36 hours and 4 ships can be serviced simultaneously! Check the waterlines of the two almost identical ships to see before and after. Very cool to see the backbone of the Aussie economy in action.

Didn't stay in Port Hedland, we fuelled up and topped up with water then headed out of town to Karajini National Park, a spot that quite a few people have told me is their favourite place in Oz. Some of the people on the road said there’s nothing to see between Port Hedland and Karajini but we disagreed with that. The landscape is amazing as you head through red rolling hills with rocky mountains getting closer and closer. Once in the park the scenery was even more stunning and we got the last spot in one of the best campsites so far.

We’ve been rating the camp-shui (obviously the feng-shui of our campsites) and this one was a solid 8-plus! Minimal facilities but such a great setting amongst the spinifex and gumtrees. Great stars again too and a resident dingo who does the rounds looking for a feed.
