Day 089 – Exmouth to (almost) Coral Bay

Got up early to hit the new secret fishing spot, we even organised a late check out so we could fish! Sadly it seems to be an evening spot rather than morning so we fished in vain, last night’s meager snapper dinner just a distant memory.

Packed up and got 200m up the road to notice the temperature gauge about to hit the red and pulled over to find 5 litres of radiator fluid missing and Nessie about to boil over! Not sure how that happened but after we let her cool down and topped her up we went back to the campsite to find a big patch of fluid in the sand. We hadn't checked the fluids (for once), obviously it was our disappointment of the big one getting away!

Decided to cancel going south through the national park and get into Exmouth to figure out if/how to proceed. Got into town ok and parked under a tree for a bit of investigatory work. Found a loose drain plug on the radiator fairly quickly, thanks Minshull Mechanical! In fairness it’s always a bad idea to get your car done on a busy Friday arvo. Tightened up the plug but still not convinced there isn’t a little crack somewhere too. Bought some coolant and radiator seal-it stuff and gingerly headed down the highway towards Coral Bay.

Nessie seemed to keep her cool for more than 100km and we stopped for the evening in a station next door to Giralia where we'd stayed a few nights ago. Pretty good camp-shui and cool to stay on a working property. A small one this, only a quarter-million acres! Got under the car for a few checks and suddenly had a goat nibbling my feet! Nessie seemed ok so that was good news.

One of the best showers I’ve had on this trip in a really cool outdoor bathroom and great stars again tonight. A little fox wandered right past our camp too, brazen little bugger! Not sure why the owner hasn’t sorted him out with a .22!
