Day 059 - Darwin and Litchfield National Park

Trucked out of town early for a 9am jumping crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River. We took some local advice to go with a smaller tour and it was great, only 6 or 8 of us on a fairly small boat next to some pretty big crocs. The biggest was the local dominant male, Godfrey, at 4.5m. Yeah he looked pretty long cruising next to the boat but when he came out of the water after the chicken you could see how solid he was. Terrifying! He smashed into the boat a few times while thrashing around to get the food and the whole thing juddered. Great fun. We cruised up and down the river and saw quite a few more crocs, all female though (Godfrey's harem).

Headed further south to Litchfield National Park which is great. Awesome swimming under waterfalls and the biggest termite mounds you've ever seen. We did the loop past all the different waterfalls and came out the dirt back road which was one of the best parts. The "magnetic" termite mounds (built flat to catch the morning and evening sun) were the biggest up here, much better than the official viewing platform at the start of the park.

Copped a massive downpour on the way home (still on the dirt road). Thought this was meant to be the dry season but we watched an evil cloud build up and then it dropped it's guts on us. We went from sunny to driving through 30cm puddles in a matter of minutes! You can see how everything would be cut off pretty quickly in the wet. Darwin was dry when we got back but then the rain caught up and smashed us while cooking dinner. Hope this isn't an ongoing theme or our outback 4wd experience could be quite exciting.
