Day 051 - Kuta (Lombok)

Final Ekas mission to try and score some waves in the solid swell. Got a decent boat this time (with Yamaha outboard this time) because we split the cost with the girls. Ends up about A$10 each for the boat all day which isn't too bad. Heaps of swell coming through the bay on the way out, excited and nervous, wondering if it might be too big but Inside Ekas wasn't even breaking! Clearly the wrong swell direction. Decided to head over to Outside Ekas (about 1km away) which was meant to be quite heavy and pulled in lots of swell, certainly it was twice the size of Inside Ekas last time we'd been out here.

Nobody out and looked a bit scary with heaps of water moving around but didn't actually seem that big or heavy. I paddled out to suss it and managed to figure out where to sit and got a few reasonably powerful lumpy overhead ones. Seemed like plenty of water over the reef so not too dodgy either. It wasn't really working properly but it was quite fun sitting by myself in the middle of the ocean. Got a few turns in and tried to get barrelled on the end section but couldn't really claim it.

Went back to the boat to get Jack out and by now a couple more boats rocked up. Surfed another hour but with more heads in the water it wasn't really worth it although I did get a couple more fun ones. Also got pumped on the inside section and just lightly kissed the reef (expected to get driven into it!), thanks Huey. Called it a day and headed back relatively early. Surfed Grupuk again on the way back for the last time, worst Grupuk ever but at least by now we'd had a decent fill of waves in Lombok.

Surf: Outside Ekas, Lombok, 4 foot, 2.0hr; Inside Grupuk, Lombok, 2 foot, 2.0hr (63.0 total)
