Day 049 - Kuta (Lombok)

Super early mission to Mawie but the swell had dropped overnight and the tide was all wrong (deadly low). Glad it wasn't pumping as a boat trip from Bali was anchored out the back and they would have been all over it otherwise. Slightly annoying that you do all this trekking to get to the waves and a boat can just pull up next to you. Oh well, could be us in the boat another time. Went for a walk instead in the very weird sand (shaped like ball bearings) into which you sink halfway to you knees!

Back in time for brekky and a bit of internet planning to figure out if we stay in Lombok for the next swell or try something different. Lombok seemed the best option for trying to avoid crowds (and we have it pretty sussed now) and too late for massive mission to Java, etc (next time) so decided to stay for the weekend. Went for a late arvo surf at Grupuk with Emma and Babs, a couple of girls from the Goldie (although Babs was Austrian) we'd met the night before at dinner. Jack got a flat trye coming into Grupuk village but a cool local guy in aviator sunnies got it all sorted out for us (while we surfed) for about $4!

Surf: Inside Grupuk, Lombok, 2 foot, 2.5hr (55.5 total)
