Day 028 - Lorella Springs to Towns River

Slept like the dead last night. Woke up and checked the puncture tyre to find it all ok. Did the deal for the $100 spare and we were back in business (with a very unhealthy tyre now strapped to our roof).
We took to opportunity to join a 4wd convoy going out to lagoon, 20km further into the bush from the homestead, which was essentially unvisited until about a week before. The owners had only just pushed in a track though the bush (using their Hilux's bullbar) and they wanted a few more vehicles to run over it to form the track. This ened up being one of the coolest things we've done so far! It was great fun setting out in a convoy of rigged up 4wds and bashing through the bush to untouched wilderness. The lagoon was full of birds, one very large feral pig and a colony of 100,000 flying foxes!
We left the group after the lagoon so we could head back and continue their journey, they kept going up another track to a billabong which had never been fished before! We made it up to Towns River that evening. Much closer to the edge of the gulf, this is a much bigger river and populated with fairly large crocs. We (very carefully) dropped in our yabbie pots for the night and kicked back with a few beers to celebrate the fact we'd been able to continue travelling up this route and seeing all this great stuff.
