Day 099 - Yallingup

Day 99 and my 100th post! Hope it's not getting boring. We awoke to strong offshores and a 6-8 foot swell. Yallingup looked great although quite solid. There was a surf competition on anyway so surfing there wasn't on the cards. Great to watch pumping surf being torn apart by really good surfers. The best bit was probably seeing the 12 year old grommets (obviously due to compete in the comp) staring at the sets, wide-eyed in pure fear. Their Dad was giving them tips on where to sit, relaxing during a wipeout, etc.

We loaded up Nessie with boards and checked a bunch of spots between Yallingup and Surfer's Point (the famous "Margaret River" although the actual town is inland a bit). Everywhere was a bit too solid for us although cool watching guys pulling into dodgy barrels at 6-8 foot North Point.

Surfer's Point and the breaks nearby were huge. Straight out was at least 4 times overhead (10 foot?) and further out there were guys towing in (with a jetski) to bigger waves at a spot called Suicides. Everybody going out had massive (7 foot plus) big wave guns. Cool to watch but in no way felt compelled to get out there.

We ended up at a spot called The Farm, which is around the corner from Cape Naturaliste and protected from the brunt of the swell. Conveniently it's also offshore when the onshore southerly hits the main part of the coast. Ended up having a great surf in 3-4 foot waves which had apparently been pumping all day!!! Not to worry though, was cool seeing huge waves surfed and we have plenty of time around here to score.

Surf: The Farm, WA, 3-4 foot, 2.0hr (88.0 total)
