Day 047 - Kuta (Lombok)

Took a punt that the new big swell would be too much (8 foot plus) at Mawie and that Grupuk would be a nice 4 foot plus but unsurfable for all the Euro kooks. Got to the village super early in anticipation but the gamble didn't pay off, it was 2-3 foot and quickly became Deutschland-On-Sea (Jack's awesome phrase). We shared a boat out with what seemed like a nice enough Swiss guy (in order to make the boat cheaper) but it turned out he was a total hippie idiot with a big mouth. Hilariously he sounded almost exactly like John Malkovich but with a Swiss German accent so things weren't too bad.

Cruised back through the jungle and checked out some of the other beaches on way. Most of the surf spots here are actually more suited to the wet season when the wind is from the opposite direction. Definitely coming back one day, especially now that after a few days of sussing out the area and the going rates for different products and services, the locals seem much friendlier. There's huge potential here to scored epic, uncrowded surf but not at this time of year!

Surf: Inside Grupuk, Lombok, 2-3 foot, 2.0hr (49.5 total)
