Day 011 - Byron Bay

Time for some cross training… climbing Mt Warning! We headed out of Byron after brekky, out through the hills (and cute little towns like Uki) to Mt Warning National Park. Awesome walk to the top which takes one though rainforest and jungle-like terrain before turning into a very steep rock scramble to the top. Great views although a little hazy so not the best photos. Highly recommended though. We did about a 3 hour round trip moving fairly steadily but they say it’s a 5 hour walk and some of the people on the track could have taken longer than that.

In more random friend-spotting, I ran into an old mate Paddy on the track as we were coming back down. Hadn’t seen him for 2 or 3 years and he’s now moved up from Sydney to the local area. Wonder who else I’m going to run into on my travels.

Took the scenic route home with a beer at the Mt Warning Hotel in Uki and lunch at the Rainbow CafĂ© in Nimbin. Best falafel I’ve ever had in my life. Nimbin is much the same with all the obligatory weirdos (some so much so that they’re almost caricatures of themselves) but still good value for a short visit and a walk around.
